Myths about Poa annua

Myth
Fact
All genotypes are annuals. Life cycles vary from true annual (Poa annua annua) to true perennial (Poa annua reptans).
All genotypes have a yellow-green color. Many dark-green genotypes also exist.
All genotypes are shallow rooted. Tremendous variation within this species has allowed for the evolution of genotypes with deep root systems.
All genotypes flower year round. Some genotypes require an over-wintering to induce floral production and therefore flower only once each year, in Spring.
All genotypes are very disease susceptible. Some genotypes show resistance to various diseases.
All genotypes are killed by drought stress. Drought tolerance and recovery is present in some genotypes.
